Achieving Disability Confident Status

The Challenge

Airbus is a longstanding client of Vista, utilising a range of our services to enable a holistic approach to their people strategy.  As a leader in their field, and focused on building an engaging and inclusive workplace culture, they were looking for assistance in advancing systemic inclusion of existing, and future, employees with disabilities.

Airbus were keen to use the Disability Confident Scheme criteria as the basis for a gap analysis to document the ‘as is’ situation and obtain recommendations to close any gaps to meet the criteria which includes:

  • Recruitment and selection processes
  • Disability awareness training and promoting a disability confident culture
  • Work experience, trials and traineeships
  • Supporting employees with disabilities and health conditions
  • Development and progression of disabled employees
  • Accessibility and work environment

The Solution

Vista was perfectly placed to support as we have been working with the Disability Confident Scheme for a number of years, understood the large organisation context of Airbus and were able to do this remotely in a flexible way. We held discussions with a range of stakeholders, including employees and line managers, along with those involved with activities around recruitment, HR policy and systems, Occupational Health and facilities to evidence the current situation.  We then mapped this against the Disability Confident criteria through an external lens to produce a report which gave clear and practical recommendations to meet the requirements of the Disability Confident scheme, whilst appreciating the internal ways of working.

The Results
We were delighted when Airbus achieved their Disability Confident status, and were very happy to  introduce them to other large organisations who had achieved Disability Confident Leader status in order to network and benchmark their future progress.
